We recently teamed up with Timken Museum of Art to produce the new iPad app for the ‘George Inness in Italy exhibition. George Inness was an American 19th century painter born in Newburgh, NY, whose work was inspired by Old Masters. The artist made two trips to Italy (1851–52 and 1870–74) where he painted scenes that contemplated the country’s landscape. He is widely admired as the pioneer of Tonalism, which is distinguished by soft focus and diaphanous layers of paint.
‘George Inness in Italy’ presents ten oil paintings highlighting three decades of Inness’ work.
Artfinder has made it a whole lot easier to see the exhibition and has made all the works available for free on your iPad (and on our website). The app features ten works, which can be posted to Facebook or shared via email and users can zoom into the images to see these beautiful European landscape paintings in detail.
If you don’t have an iPad, or if by any chance you’re in San Diego, you can go to the Timken through September 18, 2011 to explore the exhibition in person. If you’ve already seen it and loved it, download the app from Apple Store here.

Thanks! I am in San Diego.
