Explore Leonardo da Vinci on your iPad!

Artfinder's 'How to Enjoy Leonardo' App is now available to download for free for the iPad

Artfinder has just launched an extraordinary free iPad App that allows you to discover, explore and learn about the work of the great Renaissance master, Leonardo da Vinci. How to Enjoy Leonardo, Volume 1, is the first in a series of Apps to address the life and works of da Vinci, often the subject of endless wonder, emphasising how not to look at his work and exploring the ways in which his paintings and sketches should be enjoyed.

With this app it is now easy to appreciate Leonardo’s ingenuity. Five narrated videos by Robert N. Orme of the Latymer Upper School guide you through his artworks and explore the common clichés and themes that surround them – with particular reference to the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and the myth of Mary Magdalene. The videos explain why Leonardo’s works have been subject to such speculation and sensationalism, and suggest new ways of looking at them in order to better understand them.

In addition, there are four galleries of paintings and sketches in high definition with zoom, each exploring the common themes that emerge in his work, such as his portraiture, religious subjects, and anatomy. Extensive supporting information ensures that each work is thoroughly contextualised. Users can also share their favourite artworks over email or Facebook, and save them to their Artfinder profile.

So, why is the Mona Lisa so famous, why do crowds flock to go see The Last Supper? And what makes Leonardo…..well, Leonardo? This is the App that answers all these questions, and is the perfect way to explore the most celebrated artist of the moment. You can preview the works in the App here, and download the App for free here.
